As part of our half termly value of compassion we decided as a school to raise money for a good cause, with each year group being responsible for thinking up an activity or project they could get involved in to raise money.
In Year 1, we decided to link our project with our topic of explorers and thought up an explorer’s challenge which the children will pay to take part in. The challenge will consist of an assault cause on the climbing equipment in the Hall, a visual challenge where the children will have to identify an object by looking at a magnified photograph of a tiny part of the object, a taste challenge where the children will have to taste an unknown food whilst blindfolded and a feely box where children will have to be brave enough to feel an unknown object or mixture hidden within the box. Some children have also requested a Victorian classroom challenge, and although we felt that we are far too nice to expose them to this sort of activity, we are also fantastic actresses and feel that this could be a role which we could get really stuck into!
If your child would like to take part in the challenge and is willing to have a go in spite of the unknown aspects of what we have planned, we would ask that you send your child in with a suggested donation of £1 (please feel free to donate more if you are able) and let the challenge commence!
Our explorers challenge will take place on Monday 13th July in the afternoon. All money donated will go to a child, Minesote, who staff members sponsor to be educated in Africa through the Hand in Hand charity.
Many thanks in anticipation,
The Year 1 team.
